Fun couple of weeks with baking and nature!
Matilda loves to help out in the kitchen. Sometimes a box mix, like this blueberry muffin mix, is the way to go. Although, it is important for kids to learn that not everything comes out of a box. Matilda enjoys herself either way.

It was my turn to lead the unit study. We read a book from Five In A Row called How To Make An Apple Pie And See The World. One of our favorites! We read the story, made mini apple pies and "traveled" the world and filled out passports.
Abe got rather fussy right when it was time for the apple pie assembly. Luckily for me the other wonderful moms in the co-op stepped up to help out. What a great group of women! What a great time!
They were coloring maps, cutting out each country's flag and pictures of the ingredients acquired at each country. Then they pasted the flags and pictures in their passports. It was a great way to remember and retell the story. Pinterest can be very useful.

We have been reading, Down Down The Mountain from FIAR. Cute story. It was first published in 1934. The book isn't in print anymore. Good thing for the Inter library loan option. The kids, Hetty and Hank, eat cornbread with butter and honey for dinner one night. We made two little bread loaves of cornbread. Tavin wasn't so sure of it at first but he gave it a try anyway. Hard not to try it when there is butter and honey all over it. He said, with a muffled mouthful, "It's good!"
