The Rag Coat

We read the story, The Rag Coat.
If this story doesn't make you appreciate all that you have I don't know what will.
Her family was too poor to buy her a winter coat and she looses her father to the black lung disease. It sounds pretty dark but the author made it work.
Her mother's friends use scraps of fabric from their old belongings to piece together a coat for her. She is finally able to go to school and the children make fun of her rag coat. It is a wonderful story about forgiveness as the girl decides to overcome bitterness and forgive the children at school.
I don't know if the story was too above their heads or not but I hope they at least learned to be thankful for what we have and that calling people names is hurtful. One can hope.

Ted was gone for about ten days. The kids are always so excited to see him when he gets home! He's been home for a whole week now...but he'll leave again next week for about ten days. Good thing for photos and technology.

We visited Great Grandma Elaine and Grandpa Jerry stopped by too.

Abraham on his daddy's lap.

Tavin using the clothespin number wheel we made last year.

The kids were making their own 'rag' coats with construction paper.

We found some cute Halloween costumes. Matilda makes a lovely evil queen and Tavin is the perfect pirate.

Making shapes with the geoboards. Tavin also later decided to make his own guitar out of it.

The evil queen putting together her name puzzle.

Koolaid playdough. This stuff smells so much better than the regular play doh.

 Just a pretty rainbow.

Happy Birthday Tavin! He just wanted to stay home and play with his toys and he had a blast. Just as well, it was incredibly windy today. We decided to save the corn maze for when daddy could go too. This weekend!

He begrudgingly let me take some photos of him. I thought letting him hold his dragon would help. These are all just so him.

Our sweet boy, Tavin! He looks so grown up. Happy fifth birthday handsome, little man!
