Week Three with Nana

Another week with Nana! We have been watching Jane Austen movies. Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma.

Tavin and Matilda have even started to bow or nod to one another like they do in those movies. I'm surprised they even want to watch the movies but, surprisingly, they do.

We visited a Greek Orthodox Church last Sunday. What a beautiful experience. It was a two hour service due to the Feast of the Pentecost...the kids did really well. The icons, the robes, the candles, the rituals...all kept the kids somewhat interested. After the service was a meal. That evening we went to a friend's house for dinner. Busy and cultural filled day.

We went to two libraries on Tuesday. One library we collected our book supply for the week and another library we saw a puppet show.
We also went to the McKennan Park and met some new friends and learned about flowers.

I needed a new mop and with the kids always wanting to "help" when I mop I thought I might as well get a kid friendly sized mop for them to use.

Tavin got the floor pretty clean...and very wet.

Week Two with Nana

We are finished with our Wee Folk Art and are now using Five In A Row. With FIAR you read a story five days in a row (or more) and every day pick one of the suggested activities (from the teacher's manual) from the categories of Social Studies, Science, Art, Math, Language Arts, etc. The depth is up to you and varies according to age. The trick at Tavin and Matilda's ages is to have fun with the activities without trying too hard or forcing it. Some days are better than others. 

The first book that we are reading from FIAR is The Story About Ping.  It is about a duck on a boat with his  large family on the Yangtze River in China. 

We haven't gotten in to our FIAR groove yet, our new routine with baby Abe is still getting established and we have Nana visiting...but we're having fun!

 We went to a park to feed some geese and ducks. Sort of a go-along to our Ping story.

 Matilda has no fear...but I do. I had to tell those geese to keep their distance.

 Kids have enjoyed their little kiddy pool. So much easier than attempting the city pool. As long as they're happy, why pay to go to the pool? Matilda found some dirt and mud.

 We had some scary weather around here, tornadoes and thunderstorms with hail. The sun came out and the kids were excited to stomp in puddles.

Our last week of Spring B's Preschool and Wee Folk Art! We had a wonderful, whimsical year with Wee Folk Art. I would highly recommend it to anyone with young children. 

It was fun and the kids still learned many things!

The books for this week were cute and great for learning about caterpillars and butterflies. It is adorable hearing Tavin or Matilda say "metamorphosis." The Butterfly House actually got me a little teary-eyed. The kids didn't have much interest in making tissue paper butterflies but enjoyed playing with the two I made. The lemon bars were delicious! I'll make that recipe again.

Nana is visiting us from Michigan. 

We are all enjoying her company and boy does she ever make good bread!
